Do you love spending time with children? Are you interested in a career in early childhood or elementary education? Does planning daily camp activities and curriculum development sound exciting to you?

The Chilmark Community Center is looking for youth programming interns to join their team! This internship will provide interns with experience and supervision working children ages 3-14 in a camp setting. The interns will learn how to plan programs, develop curriculum, manage groups of children at different developmental stages, set clear limits and provide logical consequences as well as how to implement and teach conflict resolution skills. The interns will also have the opportunity to work under the supervision of highly qualified teachers providing them with regular and thoughtful feedback and the exposure to the many career opportunities available in the field of education. 

The Chilmark Community Center is a social center for the townspeople of Chilmark and the island of Martha’s Vineyard, summer visitors, and year-round residents alike. In July and August the Center hosts a variety of programs for children, their families, and adults that offers  Playschool for children ages 3 to 5, a morning program with a full range of activities for kids ages 6 to 14, yoga and fitness classes & activities for adults, a tennis and sailing program for all ages, and an evening and weekend program of lectures, music, and special events.

Start date: Orientation on June 8 (online) + June 26-27 (in-person); July 1st start date

Hours:  20-40 hours/week

Duration: Late June - mid-August

Duties + Responsibilities

  • Help plan and implement engaging camp activities

  • Choose a focus area: athletics, early childhood, or performing arts

  • Work directly with campers and youth program staff

  • Develop leadership, communication, and program design skills

  • Coursework or experience in education, child development, athletics, performing arts, business, operations, or a related field is a plus — but not required

  • Prior camp, coaching, tutoring, babysitting, or volunteer experience is valued

Compensation

Compensation: $16-$25/hour depending on candidate’s level of experience

CAMP! Internship Program Requirements

BootCAMP!
CAMP! interns are required to participate in BootCAMP – a weekend of in-person professional development workshops. Topics covered include professionalism, goal setting, skill development, financial wellness, and preparing a professional profile.
Upon completion, interns will receive a certificate of completion. Exemptions may be permitted under exceptional circumstances.

When: Saturday + Sunday | June 27 + 28, 2026
